Rural areas do not possess as many fire hydrants as suburban or urban areas. Therefore, areas like Navarino rely on Tankers as their main source of water to extinguish fires. When there is a fire in neighboring towns, often tankers from other departments are requested to respond to the scene, dump their stored water into a ___, and refill the apparatus at the nearest hydrant or source of water. 

Engine 2 houses a large number of tools, including power tools, ladders, axes, halligan bars, and more. Engine 2 responds to everything from residential fires to motor vehicle collisions. 

The Rescue is used to respond to local medical emergencies. The majority of Navarino's calls annually are EMS calls. 

The Squad is used to respond to non-heavy duty emergencies, such as transporting sump-pumps for basement flooding or when another apparatus is out of service.
